There have been times in my life when I have been so caught up in the circumstances of life that I have forgotten that I have a choice. A sage coach once reminded me that we make choices every day, we choose every day to be a partner to the person we married, to do the work we do and be the person we choose to be.
This Cherokee story of the two wolves reminded me of the choices I make every day:
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Choices and decisions that were made a long time ago may have brought you to this moment but we choose every day to keep the status quo or to make a change. Which wolf do you feed regularly? What are some practices you might take on to continue to feed the “Good” wolf?
